ABOUT ME
Witch’s Brew Mead is an award winning Meadery based in Southern San Diego specializing in small batch meads.
Alex’s journey began in North County San Diego in the sunny city of Oceanside. Growing up, she had always had a fascination with everything, both fantasy, as well as embracing the love and care of the earth and environment. Her knowledge of mead was mostly tied to the games she played such as Elder Scrolls. This changed when she was finally able to taste the sweet nectar at the annual Vista Viking Festival in 2013.
However, having a taste only once a year was simply not enough. She began to research how to make such a tasty brew on her own and made two flavors- only to forget about it for nearly an entire year in the back of her closet! Once rediscovered, she bottled up the batches and gifted them to her family as Christmas gifts. A member joked of having a little witch’s brew. From there, that planted the seed to her path on mead.
For a year, she continued to make batches that were sweet and perfect for desserts. It was in 2015, she discovered Golden Coast Mead. As she attended pairing events and homebrew club meetings, she grew to love mead not just for the taste, but the community it brought together as well as the message in helping the buzzing workers who help make mead possible. Building a connection with GCM, she interned there until 2018, helping create small batches for their tasting room. With their guidance, she was able to learn the craft and hone her skills, while continuing to make her own batches at home.
In 2018, her brewing came to a near halt as she moved to Japan for three years to teach English at local elementary schools in Sapporo, Hokkaido. While unable to brew mead there, she still kept up in learning as meaderies began popping up all over San Diego, making sure to take visits when back in town for vacation.
2021, she returned to the states, settling in National City. It did not take long for her to pick up where she left off, immediately making batches. She became a member of the local homebrew club QUAFF, and began competing in various homebrew competitions around the states. She soon began taking medals, inspiring her to take her meads a step further.
In 2025, she reached a new chapter, partnering with Golden Coast Mead in officially producing Witch’s Brew batches, having limited flavors and quantities available for their tasting room and farmers markets.
